Iceland in 10 days: the complete road trip around the island

Driving the Ring Road all the way around Iceland is an unforgettable trip: volcanoes, waterfalls, black sand beaches and, with a bit of luck, the northern lights.

When to go

Summer (June to August) offers very long days and easy access to the whole island. Winter allows you to see the northern lights, but some secondary roads may be closed.

Suggested itinerary (10 days)

  • Days 1-2: Reykjavik and the Reykjanes peninsula
  • Days 3-4: Golden Circle — Þingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss waterfall
  • Days 5-6: South coast — Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara black sand beach
  • Days 7-8: Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and icebergs
  • Days 9-10: Return via the north or the east fjords, depending on time available

Estimated budget

Iceland is an expensive destination: budget 100 to 150 EUR per day and per person (car rental, accommodation and meals included).
